Elnino : Our King Fluffy (25 Nov 2005–11 Jan 2008)

Elnino wasn’t the first bunny in our apartment..

A month before we got him, we bought 3 young bunnies to fill the emptiness in our home. Nicky, Nicko and Didie. But all the 3 kits weren’t survived. They were too young to survive. When i bought them, they were so young just a size of my palm. I guess they’re around 2-3 weeks old.

Nicko died after nibbled on some vegetable. Nicky died 2 weeks later due to stress and heatstroke after i brought her along my 12-hours journey from Penang to Johor during Hari Raya holiday at the end of Oct 2005.

A week later, we got our new bunny, Didie. But he died within a week after refused to eat.

Small and young bunnies are unresistable. They’re so cute and lovely. But after all those incidence, we avoid ourselves from buying a very young bunny.

I bought Elnino on 25 Nov 2005. I saw he was alone in a 1’Wx 3’L x 1’H glass aquarium. He looks fluffy and adorable. The pet shop said he was about 2-3 months old. So we brought him home.

He looked such a sweet boy. But after a few days, he showed his true character – naughtyness and mischievousness

I was camera-less before. I only have a DVCam (Dogital Video Camera). I don’t have a lot of his photo, but i managed to captured a lot of his video while he grown up. I keep a lot of video his doing binky.. These are some photos i managed to snap using my DVCam, camera-phone and a friend’s digicam.

Mom stops me doing my F1 run..She afraid i’ll get skidded and bang the wall..

Owh, Mom moved it away, but i found the same stuff here..

Argh! Mom got me! Owh, what is this thing? This one is hard to chew..

I wonder what is this.. Can i taste it too?

Our Elnino is a loving bunny too! 😉

I love licking the human..

..especially my Mom..

We always hang-out together.. Mom always hug me and let me lie down by her side.. I like!

When Mom is busy, i hang-out with this pink bunny gal (a bunny soft toy )..

Elnino and i spent most of our time together..

Mom brings me to the park every weekend. We play run-and-chase on a human kids playground.. It is a long bridge and fun run to run on it. Mom trains me to run from one end to the other end while she harasses me with that big, silver thing she always carries around. See?! She's still holding that silver thing..!

When she comes near, i’ll run.. RUN..! Mom will chases and chases me until she get tired

When we reach home, Mom will give me a warm bath. Mom said i’m a good boy. I sit quietly while Mom bathes me. I hate the hair-dryer sound. It is so noisy.. So Mom will rubs me with towels until i dry..

I’ll lick Mom when she dries me.. I know she likes!!

ELNINO : Journey To Rainbow Bridge

Everything was perfect. Until one day, after recovered from pappiloma removal, i found a big lump at his right cheek and he lost his lower teeth. So the vet has to removed the upper teeth to avoid the upper teeth from hurt the lower gum. The vet has no safe anaesthetic for rabbit, so he pulled the teeth out without any anaesthetic. And we had to bring him to the vet twice a week to remove the thick puss from his abscess. It was a painful procedure for this small creature. Since then, my poor little boy lost his appetite and ate much lesser than usual.

Until a few weeks later, i saw him sat in a hunch position. Like this..

It looked like he was in a great pain.

He tried to walk, but there was something wrong with his left front leg. When i touched his leg, it felt like bubbles under his skin. When i put some pressure, there was ‘pop’ sound came from that bubble.. I was scare to death. We rushed him to our vet. The vet told me it was the symptoms of emphysema. But he couldn’t tell me what caused it. He said, maybe Elnino had been bitten by some insect, eating something poisoning or lack of diet. Then the vet gave some injectable antibiotic. I didn’t ask the antibiotic name.

I admit i wasn’t gave much attention on his diet. He didn’t like greens and vegetables. But he had some slices of apples and carrots in his daily diet. I fed him with Briter Bunny pellet since that was the only pellet we found locally (other than cheapo pellet that he won’t eat at all). And he never ate his hays i provided. Other than that, he loved banana and chocolate chip cookies which was bad for his health.

After we reached home, the bubbles already spread to his chest, head and almost half of his body. Then the red spots appeared on his skin.

The red spots kept spreading 😦

His body looked swollen like a balloon.. And his body temperature kept rising..

After a few hours struggled in pain, he left us for forever and never return... 😥

Elnino died on 11 Jan 2008, 1am the morning.. We didn’t slept the whole night. We cried until there’s no more tears coming from our eyes. We buried Elnino at 4am because Am refused to let him go. He hold Elnino so tight in his arm. And i will never forget that night.

Everytime we talk about him, its only bring tears and sadness in our heart.. We couldn’t accept his death. We wish it was a nightmare. And everynight before we off to bed, we pray that we’ll wake up from this long nightmare. We always feel his existence. We miss everything about him until today. And we realized no matter how many bunnies we hunt/have, nothing can replace this one.

Elnino was a special bunny and will always be in our heart forever.
