Skinny Bunny

Posted: October 28, 2010 in Inside The Playpen

We have 13 bunnies. Shiro in the thinnest among all.

Last month when i sent them dewormed, Shiro was about 2.1kg. Recently when i sent him to x-ray, his weight is about 1.8kg. He has lost 300g in a month!

Taking Shiro to the vet to take his molar and abdomen xray

Hope he will fully-recover very soon! Go, boy!!

Shiro is getting skinny and skinnier 😦

Losing 300g in a month! Does he looks skinny to u?

Skinny bunny or sleepy bunny?

I have a few questions…

1) Any of u guys work with rabbit shelters? And any of u rescued skinny bunnies before? Is there any tips to fatten the skinny bunny?

2) And since he is just recovered from GI statis and blockage, is there any supplement, vitamin or diet to strengthen his gut?

3) I read that Nutri-cal can helps to keep the rabbit hydrated, provides calories/energy, and vitamin E for the intestinal lining. Any of u give this to your bunny?

Hi, sorry I don’t know the answers to any of your questions. I’m glad to hear Shiro got the x-ray. So how did they do it – under anaesthetic, or? I have my fingers crossed for good results =:)

  3. Brian says:

We don’t have any bunnies either, but I sure hope Shiro will be OK.

  4. Have you talked to Timothy Chan? And asked Cathy Thong?

  5. Old Kitty says:

Hello!! Me and my cat Charlie came over from Bin’s a desperate, reluctant housewife blog to wish poor little Shiro well. Oh poor bunny! What a cute sweetie!!! We’re very sorry but we do not know anything about bunnies except that they’re adorable and they like their vegetables!

We hope you find a solution to help little Shiro eat up!!! GOOD LUCK and take care

Hello Shiro, Nerq – sending you our purrs and hugs!!!!

If Shiro isn’t eating well, his molars could be bothering him. It may also help to give him Oxbow Critical Care to help with his appetite for a short period of time (just to boost his appetite and some weight gain). Also, you mentioned he just recovered from statis. Is he molting at this time? Daily brushing with fresh green veggies can help to keep his gut moving.

I just read your previous post on Shiro. Looks like you are doing pretty much everything right. πŸ™‚ Just a comment on the molars. His front teeth look very good. You would need to ask the vet to check on the back molars. Sometimes, they develop spurs which causes pain as they chew which can also explain his reluctance to eat pellets.

  8. Reese says:

Oh, I hope little Shiro has recovered and in good shape now. More patience is needed when you are taking care of a sick pet. Set aside the rabbit hutches, Shiro needs more time with you. I suppose, he needs your time and attention more than the others now.
